Ferryland
The main road into Ferryland hugs the coastline, where tiny bay houses dot the steep hills. Ferryland is one of the oldest European settlements in North America: the Englishman Lord Baltimore, Sir George Calvert, settled it in 1620. Calvert didn't stay long on this cold windswept shore—he left for a warmer destination and is more commonly credited with founding Maryland. In the summer this is a great spot to whale-watch.
