If you're looking for a peaceful back-to-nature retreat, check out this hotel on a long, secluded beach that straddles the line between desert and ocean. And once the diners clear out of the adjacent and very popular Buzzard's Bar & Grill, La Fonda is even more tranquil. The three thatch-roof cabañas and one cabaña/suite are in heavy demand by both surfers and the slightly adventurous in high season. Cabañas have in-suite toilets and sinks but share a hot-water shower; but the suite has all its own in-room facilities. The whole operation runs on solar power. To get here, turn off Boulevard Mijares at the signs for Puerto Los Cabos, continue past PLC and follow the road up the hill, around the mini-circle and continue out into the desert; it's about 3 miles and more or less 10 minutes outside town.
