Dreams Los Cabos

Carretera Transpeninsular, Km 18.5, Tourist Corridor, Baja California Sur 23400, México

Chris Sands

This casual, unfussy resort is touted as a romantic getaway, but it's more a destination for families and wedding parties with all ages of guests in attendance. Dreams can average as many as five weddings per week. Guests simply check in at the restaurant or bar of their choice, rather than having to wear the brightly colored wristbands synonymous with all-inclusives. The U-shaped building wraps around three huge pools, with one set aside just for kids. The spa, tennis courts, and nightly entertainment keep guests happy for days. Wedding and honeymoon packages are offered.

room

Each of the 230-suites feature contemporary Mexican furnishings in tropical color patterns, and include stylish terrace table and chair settings, and family-friendly features like pull-out sofa beds.

Kitchenettes were removed during recent remodeling, freeing up more closet space.

bathroom

Marble floors are a highlight of the spacious bathrooms, and larger suites boast soak tubs as well as walk-in showers.

lobby

The hacienda-style lobby is centered around a soothing fountain pool, with a series of arches leading towards the Sea of Cortés.

pool

Swimming options include a large infinity pool, a kid-friendly pool with a waterslide, and a relaxing, adults-only pool where no music is played.

spa

AMResorts partner with skincare specialist Pevonia on their spas. The Dreams Spa by Pevonia offers a full range of massages, facials, salon services, and manicures and pedicures, including special services for children and teens.

gym

Cardio equipment dominates the air-conditioned fitness center, but universal style machines and barbells are also available for use. Group yoga classes are held most mornings.

dining

AMResorts’ “Unlimited Luxury” plan provides all-inclusive dining and drinking at a wide array of on-site locations. World Café hosts the breakfast buffet and features international fare and theme night specialties during dinner hours. Portofino dishes up traditional Italian fare; Bordeaux excels at French cuisine; Ocean and Seaside Grill are known for their prime-cut steaks and fresh local seafood dishes. Coco Café, meanwhile, remains open 24 hours a day, albeit with self-service during the middle of the night.

drinking

The Rendezvous is the upscale lobby bar; swim-up service is offered at Manatees; beachfront cervezas are served up at Sugar Reef; and Desire is the featured nightclub, showcasing music, karaoke, and sports coverage until 3 a.m. Preferred Club members, those in upgraded accommodations, also enjoy access to a private VIP lounge.

LOCATION

Getting Around

Taxi service is easily arranged to cape cities Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, but is somewhat expensive. Bus service is much cheaper but is also slower and less comfortable. Rental cars are recommended for day-trips to Todos Santos, the Los Cabos municipality’s gorgeous East Cape region, and La Paz.

Restaurants

Restaurants at the nearby Shoppes at Palmilla (5-minute drive on the Carretera Transpeninsular, to Km 27.6) include seafood-focused eateries Blue Fish and Nick-San (a local fusion pioneer famed for pairing traditional Japanese sushi with Mexican ingredients), and Chin’s, the premier local stop for Chinese cuisine.

Bars

The original location of Baja Brewing Company, the state’s first brewery, is the destination drinking spot of choice in San José del Cabo (Calle José María Morelos, between Calles Álvaro Obregón and Ignacio Comonfort).

WHY WE LIKE IT

Few resorts mix romance and family-friendly amenities as well as Dreams Los Cabos. Discounted greens fees are also available for the Questro Group of golf resorts, which include Puerto Los Cabos, the world’s only composite design from major champions Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus.
