When to Go to Isla Mujeres

When to Go to Isla Mujeres

High season in Isla Mujeres begins the week before Christmas and continues until the day after Easter. Rates are highest during July and August, when many Europeans head to Mexico for the sunshine. Prices also jump during Thanksgiving week and over spring break (between early March and late May), when U.S college students flock to neighboring Cancún for the party scene.

Low season starts the day after Easter and continues until mid-December, during which prices may drop as much as 50 percent.

Some of the best deals can be found in early November, after the rainy season has passed and before the crowds have arrived.

Isla enjoys its best weather between November and May, when temperatures usually hover around 80°F. June, July, and August are the hottest and most humid months, with daytime highs routinely over 95°F. A few festivals and holidays are worth keeping in mind while you're planning your trip: the Sol a Sol Regatta in late April; Founder's Day on August 17; the Day of the Virgin de la Caridad del Cobre, patron saint of local fishermen, on September 9; the Day of the Dead from October 31 to November 2; and the Feast of the Immaculate Conception from December 1 to 8. Be sure to book well in advance if you're planning to visit on any of these days.
