Bilbao and the Basque Country Sights

Bosque de Oma

Updated 03/12/2014

Fodor's Review

On the road to Kortezubi, 5 km (3 miles) from Guernica, stop off at the Urdaibai Natural Reserve for a stroll through the Bosque de Oma, also known simply as Bosque Pintado (Painted Forest) because of the rows of trees vividly painted by Basque artist Agustín Ibarrola. It's a striking and successful marriage of art and nature. The nearby Cuevas de Santimamiñe have important prehistoric cave paintings that can be accessed virtually at a visitor center.
