Fodor's Review

Late Yugoslav president Tito was the gracious host to numerous 20th-century statesmen at this former royal residence, amid 13 acres of gardens overlooking the lake. The now luxurious hotel that has retains many of the original furnishings from the 1950s—giving the rooms and public areas a formal but still retro-chic feel.

Such a mixed review

We only stayed at this little hotel for 1 night on our way to Croatia. We arrived late, and they accomodated us for dinner at the hotel restaurant just before it was to close. The food was great, and the young man who helped us was SO friendly and welcoming! The staff at the hotel were great. We had an AMAZING view of Lake Bled from our balcony. Coffee in the room in the AM - no charge. The complimentary breakfast was good. All that being said,

there is one thing to mention that gave me the creeps. Now, I realize this is in the mountains, and that wildlife roam free here. However, if spiders scare you, bring along some bug killer, or hope your husband is a bug killer. There were 4 spiders that I counted in the hallway on the way to our room, and there was 1 big one IN our room. Also, you might heed the CDC website's warning and get the Rabies vaccine before traveling to certain areas in Eastern Europe. On the way up to our room after dinner, we stepped out of the elevator, and saw something streak across the dark foyer of the 3rd floor. What was that? A bird? It flew by again & we could see it was actually a BAT flying around in the foyer! We ran to our room. My parents were staying at the other end of the hallway. I mustered my courage and ran down the hallway to tell my dad not to go into the foyer area. I stood at my dad's door, motioning to the foyer at the end of the hallway when the thing actually came flying towards us down the hallway! I pushed into his room and quickly shut the door behind me. I called the front desk, and explained that I was trapped. The clerk chuckled a little and said he couldn't catch the bat, but would come upstairs and escort me back to my room. (It was a little funny). They might do well to put screens on the windows.
