Fodor's Expert Review River House
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Behind Stirling Castle, this friendly, light-filled restaurant built in the style of a Scottish crannog (ancient loch dwelling) sits by its own tranquil little loch, with tables on a deck overlooking the water. Local produce dominates a menu that includes seafood pie with Arbroath smokies, rump of lamb, and, naturally, haggis and neeps. It is busy and crowded but accommodating to families as well as individual diners. You can get here directly from the M9 motorway: follow the Stirling sign at Junction 10. From Aberfoyle it's on A84; or follow B8051 around the castle toward the Castle Business Park.
