Historical Museum (Istorichesky Muzey)

Historical Museum (Istorichesky Muzey) Review

This redbrick museum was built in 1874-83 in the pseudo-Russian style, which combined a variety of architectural styles. You may recognize the building's twin towers if you've ever caught clips of Soviet military parades on television. Against the backdrop of the towers' pointed spires, the tanks and missiles rolling through Red Square seemed to acquire even more potency. The museum's extensive archaeological and historical collections and interesting temporary exhibits outline the development of Russia. Also here are a rich collection of Russian arms and weaponry and a restaurant called Krasnaya Ploshchad that uses 200-year-old recipes, including dishes from tsars' coronation menus.
