Convento do Carmo

Convento do Carmo Review

The Carmelite Convent—once Lisbon's largest—was all but ruined by the 1755 earthquake. Its sacristy houses the Museu Arqueológico do Carmo (Archaeological Museum), a small collection of ceramic tiles, medieval tombs, ancient coins, and other city finds. The lovely square outside—accessible via a walkway from the top of the Elevador da Santa Justa —is a great place to dawdle over a coffee.
