Lisbon's 9 Best Value Hotels
Until recently an under-the-radar city, Lisbon's star has soared recently, with hotel prices following suit. While it's still one of Western Europe's more affordable capitals, bright and beautiful Lisboa is not the bargain basement destination it once was. Fear not though, bargain hunters--scratch the surface of the sunny Portuguese capital and you'll find lodgings that deliver on price and experience (whether that's epic views, stellar service, super-chic design or all three). Stay at any of our top picks, and you'll have plenty of cash to splash on ridiculously affordably Portuguese wine.
The Keep (Formerly Ninho das Águias)
Why it made the list
Views, views, views. This cheapie-but-goodie has them by the bucket load, and the eye-catching turreted building offers a truly unique experience. Expect to climb a whole lot of hills and stairs to get here, and don't expect luxury (or a round of applause) once you reach the top, but the location on a hilltop close to Saint Jorge Castle is perfect for sweeping panoramas. The family-run spot has a welcoming vibe, and it's located in prime sightseeing territory.
Hotel White Lisboa
Why it made the list
Lisbon is often referred to as 'the City of Light', and this modern boutique hotel basks in the city's radiance, with its all-white interiors and exteriors. The slick modern stylings and lovely rooftop pool make the hotel feel pricey, but its location away from the beaten tourist track makes it a surprisingly affordable option. Good public transport links means guests won't need to spend a fortune on cabs to see the sights, either.
Dear Lisbon Charming House
Why it made the list
Charming by name, charming by nature--this cute guest house has superb service, a stylish design, central location and a courtyard with pool (a near priceless amenity during the long, hot summer, and a rarity among Lisbon's smaller properties). The hotel is a 'love letter' to beautiful Lisbon, and staff will happily share their tips on how to see the city on a tight budget.
Zenit Lisboa
Why it made the list
It may be located in Lisbon's less-than-beautiful business district, but this stylish small hotel has a boutique vibe and a striking classical facade. The price is extremely fair for a hotel of this quality, and proximity to the metro makes it quick and easy to reach the sights and nightlife of Lisbon's historic center.
Estrela Park B&B
Why it made the list
Hidden away on a residential street in one of Lisbon's prettiest neighborhoods, this tiny guest house has chic design, super-friendly service and can be rented by the room or as an entire apartment. Prices are extremely affordable, and attractions such as the Basilica de Estrela and Jardim de Estrela are virtually on the doorstep.
