Abbaye de Neumünster

Since the Benedictine monks were expelled from Luxembourg during the French Revolution, this former abbey has had many owners. For much of the 20th century it served as a men's prison, but has since been transformed into a cultural center, hosting a variety of temporary exhibitions, lectures, and jazz performances. 

Casino Luxembourg

In addition to a number of art galleries, Luxembourg has a permanent space for modern and contemporary art exhibits, the Casino. This is where the Hungarian composer Franz Liszt reputedly played his last public concert, and in 1995 it was converted into an exemplary exhibition venue.

Echternach International Festival

The Echternach International Festival of classical music is one of the most important arts events in Luxembourg, bringing in world-class artists and ensembles and showcasing them in the Basilica and the smaller Sts. Peter and Paul's Church. It takes place on weekends for a month during May and June. Tickets sell out quickly, so book ahead.

Festival de Wiltz

Wiltz, halfway between Clervaux and Esch-sur-Sûre, sponsors this popular theater and music festival in July, with performances and concerts in the outdoor amphitheater. Visit the web site for ticket and schedule information.

Grand Théâtre

Good traveling plays (mostly in French and German) pass through the municipal theater, as do a number of operas, ballets, and dance recitals. You can always catch something interesting.

Philharmonie

Luxembourg is home to the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg. It performs regular concerts in the Philharmonie concert hall in Kirchberg, a striking building encircled by 823 slender white columns. Lunchtime concerts are often free.
