San Michele

San Michele is the cemetery island of Venice, but unless you’re interested in paying your respects to notables such as Ezra Pound and Igor Stravinsky, the main reason to make the crossing is to see the very beautiful church of San Michele in Isola by Renaissance architect Mauro Codussi. The cemetery itself, despite the illustrious people buried there, is really quite simple and indistinguishable from most other cemeteries in Italy. Vaporetto line 4.1 from Fondamente Nove stops at San Michele during hours it is open.
