Domus Orsoni
Sottoportego dei Vedei, Cannaregio 1045, Venice, Veneto, 30121, Italy, Venice, ItalyWhy We Like It
Overnighting in a place decorated with mosaics that were produced right there is a one-of-a-kind experience. Plus if you want to stay in a non-touristy part of Venice that’s still perfect for exploration, you’ll love your visit here as much as we did.
Fodor's Expert Review
This quirky B&B in the residential Cannaregio neighborhood has a cool concept: It’s part of the Orsoni glass and gold mosaic factory (which has made glass tiles for the Basilica San Marco and La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona), so the entire hotel, including all the rooms and bathrooms, features interesting mosaic art by various artists.
You Should Know During weekdays, workers arrive fairly early to the adjacent factory, so late risers might not be totally happy here.

Room
All five spacious guest rooms are furnished in a modern Venetian style, with wood or terrazzo floors—and, of course, pretty mosaic artworks.
Tip Ask for a room with a terrace for views of the courtyard and over to the mosaics workshop.
Bathroom
Good-sized bathrooms feature a mix of tiles and (yes) mosaics; some have bathtub/shower combos and some showers only.
Lobby
You’ll think you’ve stepped into a museum when entering the mosaic-filled lobby. And if you want a place to sit and relax, the Hall—with terrazzo and mosaic floors and beamed ceilings—is quiet and atmospheric.
Dining
There’s no restaurant at Domus Orsoni, but a simple (and free) continental breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking the lush gardens.
What's Nearby
Getting Around
The Cannaregio sestiere is a bit off-the-beaten-path, but Domus Orsoni is only about 3 minutes away from the Guglie vaporetto stop, from which you can sail around Venice. It’s also a 10-minute walk from the Santa Lucia train station. If you’re a walker, you can also get around on foot, with Piazza San Marco about half an hour away.
Restaurants
You’ll find no menus at Trattoria Dalla Marisa (5-minute walk)—just traditional homemade food, lots of locals, and gentle prices. Osteria Anice Stellato (7-minute walk) is known for its small menu of high-quality Italian food and canal-side seating. Bentigodi de Chef Domenico (8-minute walk) serves up lots of fresh fish and pasta along with friendly service (not always a guarantee when in Venice).
