Owner Alan Dunlop oversees this cozy old coach inn. Stripped pine, peat fires, and gaslights warm the public rooms. Some of the bedrooms are quite small, so look before you decide. The livery stables now house the informal restaurant, which serves fresh and hearty food, and the bar. The staff can provide a baby-listening service—you leave the tot in the room with a baby monitor, and they alert you to cries. The distillery is a stroll away from the main square and the inn, as is the salmon-filled River Bush. Rooms in the less-expensive Coaching House section are smaller and overlook the road, perfect if you're on a budget. Pros: the proximity to the distillery—never mind the Giant's Causeway—helps ensure it's a choice location with comfortable rooms; tourists and chatty locals cross paths in the bar. Cons: some guests report the place needs a "good shake-up"; service slow between courses and average presentation.
