Guildhall

Fodor's Review:

Derry city council meets monthly at Guildhall, an ornate Victorian stone and sandstone building dating from 1890. Some of the most beautiful glass creations in Ireland, the hall's stained-glass windows were shattered by two IRA bombs in June 1977 and rebuilt by the Campbell's firm in Belfast, which had installed the original windows in 1890 and still had the plans (now that's a filing system). Elsewhere, the eye is delighted by neo-Gothic strutwork, ornate ceilings, baronial wood paneling, a magnificent organ, and the fourth-largest clock (modeled on Big Ben) in Ireland. The Guildhall also hosts occasional musical recitals.
