Lake Mývatn is one of the best places in Iceland for bird-watching. More species of duck are believed to live around the lake than anywhere else in the world, including the riotous Harlequin duck, the Barrow's goldeneye, and the elusive gyrfalcon. From the end of April to the beginning of June is the best time to go, but tours are offered year-round.
