ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Gellérthegy (Gellert Hill), 761 feet high, is the most beautiful natural formation on the Buda bank. It takes its name from St. Gellért (Gerard) of Csanád, a Venetian bishop who came to Hungary in the 11th century and, legend has it, was rolled off the top of the hill in a cart by pagans. The walk up can be tough, but take solace from the cluster of hot springs at its foot; these soothe and cure bathers at the Rác, Rudas, and Gellért baths.
