This is Munich's oldest tavern, and also one of the city's smallest. You'll be asked to squeeze together and make room for latecomers looking for a spot at one of the few tables clustered in the handkerchief-size dining room. The tavern dates from 1440. It has atmosphere, but it is expensive for the typical German fare served.

the legend is that those condemned to the gallows in the 15th and 16th centuries asked to have their final meal here. The food is good (I've only eaten here once and had the Sauerbraten)and the ambiance pleasant. Low ceilings add to the intimacy of the small dining room.
