Why We Like It

Hotels in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower don’t always make the added effort. At this warm and welcoming family-owned hotel they’ve gone the extra mile to make “their home” your home and assure that your stay in Paris is a memorable one.

Fodor's Expert Review

Prices at this small, boutique hotel in an upscale neighborhood steps from the Eiffel tower are fairly reasonable considering all you get—top-notch service, a stylishly homey décor (window boxes, fresh flowers, resident golden retriever), a lively neighborhood and some spectacular views. Atogether a rare and winning combination.

Room

Each compact room is unique, with its own poetic theme (all named after Francophone singers and poets) with whimsical wallpapers and pretty accent colors giving the feel of a cozy living room. Everything is of a high quality, from the wool carpets to the handsome wood furnishings.

Tip Some rooms on the fifth and sixth floors (facing the street) offer romantic Eiffel Tower views, especially nice at the top of the hour (starting at twilight), when the tower sparkles. Though the courtyard-facing rooms, sans view, are quieter.

Bathroom

Like the rooms, bathrooms are cozy, sparkling clean and totally modern, with good water pressure and contemporary fixtures. L’Occitaine products from Provence smell divine.

Lobby

Like a welcoming Paris apartment, the cozy theme of the hotel starts here. A small reception area opens onto a lounge with a library, a computer for guests, a charming (nonworking) fireplace and breakfast room. Samba, the friendly golden retriever, is always delighted to see you.

Fun fact: Samba can also be seen at Hôtel Apollon Montparnasse--it has the same owners!

Dining

Continental breakfast includes fresh croissants and breads, yogurt, dried and fresh fruit, cheese, charcuterie and juices, available from 7 – 10 am. The breakfast room is charming but small, so you might want to get there early.

You Should Know Rooms are not equipped with Nespresso machines, but do have minibars. Food in the rooms is discouraged.

Getting Around

A few minutes from the École-Militaire metro station, a direct 5-10-minute ride to Place de la Madeleine, Opéra and Place de la Concorde, where you can transfer to line one, Paris’s central line, direct to the Louvre and the heart of Paris.

The upscale 7th arrondissement has its own quiet character, a mix of bourgeois residences and old mansions that house the French government, along with some of the city's most popular tourist sites: Invalides, the superb Musée Rodin and its walled-in gardens, and the Eiffel Tower and Champs de Mars around the corner. Though you're far from the crowds of central Paris, this is a touristed area, but its residential status also assures plenty of cafés and restaurants—especially on lively rue Saint Dominique, market streets, like the rue Cler, as well as some fine shopping. Don't miss Le Bon Marché, Paris's most stylish department store, a 15-minute walk.

Restaurants

If you feel like getting out, you needn't walk further than a block or two for good dining, beginning with legendary chef Christian Constant's rue Saint-Dominique dominion: Café Constant (where the chef hangs out) for a gourmet bistro meal on the cheap; Les Cocottes for something slow-cooked and comforting; and Le Violon d'Ingres for an elegant gastronomic dinner for two. On a more intimate note, tiny La Table d'Aki serves a fabulous gastronomic menu of refined, Japanese-inflected dishes (all between a five-15-minute walk).

Bars

This is not a big neighborhood for nightclubs, but sipping craft cocktails at The Club (at 24 rue Surcouf) is a deliciously elegant affair without the steep prices. At Hôtel Cinq-Codet's chic hidden garden restaurant and cocktail bar, you can enjoy a well-crafted pour any night of the week until midnight. The Champagne Bar at the Eiffel Tower is always a fun option, especially when the lady sparkles for five minutes every hour on the hour (all within a 5-10-minute walk).
