Radisson Blu Royal Hotel Review

This high-rise was originally designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1960. The owners spent several years—and plenty of kroner—in re-embracing its Jacobsen look, and the result is a paean to the legendary designer. The graceful lobby has brown and green leather Jacobsen Swan and Egg chairs that are arranged in circles and illuminated by the ceiling's recessed lights. Rooms are paneled in light maple and outfitted with Jacobsen chairs and lamps. Even the heavy door handles, functionally designed to fill the palm, were created by Jacobsen. The most famous room is 606, which looks just like it did in 1960, with all the original furnishings, including a nifty desktop that opens to reveal a lighted makeup mirror. Many of the rooms have views over Tivoli and the city center's copper-top buildings. The top-floor restaurant, Alberto K, serves top-notch Scandinavian-Italian cuisine. Sometimes the weekend rates include breakfast so be sure to ask.
