Fodor's Expert Review Grand Hotel Europa

Südtirolerplatz 2, Innsbruck, Tirol, A-6020, Austria Fodor's Choice

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Conveniently located opposite the train station, this top-notch hotel has provided lodging to the celebrated and wealthy in richly appointed, extremely comfortable rooms since it opened in 1869. Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Celine Dion, and Queen Elizabeth II have all checked in here. Inside, modern Italian interior design (in the extensive lobby) meets traditional Tyrolian style (in the restaurant). The splendid Barocksaal, a meeting room, was built in 1883 by Ludwig II's architect, and the entire hotel was painstakingly rebuilt brick by brick after being bombed during the war. Guiseppe the barman dispenses cocktails and information, as he has for the last 35 years. By arrangement, you can park in the station underground parking for €19 a day, and it's linked by tunnel walkway to the hotel.
