$$$$, Soufrière
Fodor's Review:
One of the most sophisticated small inns in the Caribbean, the elegantly rustic Ladera is perched 1,100 feet above the sea, high in the rain forest between the Pitons. Each unique tree house-style suite or villa is furnished with colonial antiques and local crafts and has an open wall with a dazzling view overlooking the private plunge pool -- some with a waterfall. Cooling breezes really do preclude the need for air-conditioning. The Ti Kai Posé Spa (Creole for "Little House of Rest") offers relaxing and therapeutic massages, beauty services, and restorative bathing pools containing mineral water drawn directly from the source at Diamond Mineral Baths near Soufrière. Dasheene, the open-air restaurant, has the most stunning view of the Pitons -- fabulous by day and stupendous at sunset. The inn provides shuttle service to Soufrière and its private, fully staffed beach at Anse Jambette, a 20-minute boat ride from the Soufrière dock. Diving and other activities can be arranged. Although children are allowed, the resort is not suitable for very young children.
