Fodor's Expert Review Retreat at Lookout Farm

521 Lookout Rd., Bodden Town, Grand Cayman, KY1-1602, Cayman Islands

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Peaceful is an overused word, yet it sums up the appeal of this difficult-to-find, back-to-nature hideaway swallowed up in 20 acres of foliage off the main road. The owners, Harvey and Betty Stephenson, live on the property and delight in reminiscing about the "old" Cayman, perhaps over fresh, revivifying coconut water on the inviting verandah with white wicker rockers, where lowing cows and crowing roosters remind you you're in the country. The Retreat remains a working farm, raising flowers for sale and providing produce to restaurants. Naturally, the full authentic Caymanian breakfast showcases fruit plucked from the orchard and used in homemade juices and jams. The Stephensons offers a true immersion in Caymanian life and hospitality, but though the Retreat exemplifies back-to-nature, it isn't back to basics. Each unit, named for a local flower, has Wi-Fi, cable TV, mini-refrigerator, and coffeemaker. There's a saltwater pool and indoor hot tub, but the most restful activity may be wandering the rows of cultivated tropical fruit trees and wild sugarcane humming with butterflies and birdsong.
