Te Kainga Marire Review

Te Kainga Marire, Valda Poletti and Dave Clarkson transformed what was a clay wasteland in 1972 into one of New Zealand's five Gardens of International Significance. It was featured in the BBC documentary, Around the World in 80 Gardens. With everything from alpine to forest plants, the garden resembles a piece of native New Zealand bush. There's even a hunter's camp and bushman's hut, legacies of Dave's earlier days as a professional deer hunter. Though within the city limits, the garden is in a green oasis beside Pukatea Dell Reserve and the Ti Henui Walkway and Stream.
