Getting Here and Around

Most visitors get to Daydream Island by boat from Great Barrier Reef (Hamilton Island) Airport, but they can also fly to Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine) Airport on the mainland, catch a bus to the Port of Airlie, and then take a Cruise Whitsundays ferry direct to the island. Cruise Whitsundays Resort Connections also operates several direct daily services between Daydream Island and Hamilton Island’s airport jetty on modern, air-conditioned catamaran cruisers. Cruise Whitsundays ferry services are scheduled to coincide with incoming flight and trains, and coach transfers from Proserpine to the ferry port are available.

Domestic airlines Virgin Australia and Jetstar have daily scheduled flights from Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane to both Great Barrier Reef (Hamilton Island) and Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine) airports. Queensland Rail (QR) long-distance rail services stop at Proserpine Rail Station, near Airlie Beach. If you’ve prebooked an air transfer to the island, a representative from Air Whitsunday will generally greet your incoming flight at the airport. Check with each carrier for weight and baggage restrictions.
