Fodor's Review

Bangkok's best food bargains are found at this legendary spot in the Chatuchak Market. It's noisy, and you'll be inundated with sights and smells in the rows of food stalls; walk around and let your senses take over. The seafood, like raw crab, curried crab, or steamed whole fish with garlic and chili, is especially tasty. Items are dished out in plastic baggies; finding a seat and utensils can be a challenge. The trick is to buy something small at one of the few cafélike establishments that offer seats, plates, and cutlery—then open your bags and feast.

Aw Taw Kaw Market Review

The Fodors review of this market is seriously misleading. First, the market is not "in" the Chatuchak weekend market; it's a separate market across a busy intersection, and it's open every day. Also, the review reads like this is a restaurant, when it is in fact a fresh market. There is a food court area where you can buy a light meal, but this is primarily a food market with some of the best produce in Thailand.

Aw Taw Kaw Market Review

Aw Taw Kaw makes a great destination for any foodie. A bit cleaner than most, it is a good introduction to the classic "wet" markets that are so common. One can cruise the isles, checking out the SE Asian produce, meats, fish and other products. Some vendors freely offer samples. At one end is a food court, with many tables to sit and enjoy your finds. I always recommend stall 12/5, the "Bamee Lady". Her soup is one of the best I have found

anywhere. All her ingredients are homemade, not processed. Aw taw Kaw is a great trip, on its own, or in conjunction with a Chatuchak Weekend Market visit. They sit on opposite corners of the intersection, which is easily crossed via the MRT station tunnel. Aw Taw Kaw is most easily accessed from the MRT subway, Kamphaengphet Station, exit #3.
