Shanghai Places

The Bund and Nanjing Dong Lu

The city's most recognizable sightseeing spot, the Bund, on the bank of Shanghai's Huangpu River, is lined with massive foreign buildings that predate 1949. Some of these buildings have been developed into hip "lifestyle" complexes with spas, restaurants, bars, galleries, and designer boutiques. The Bund is also an ideal spot for that photo of Pudong's famous skyline. Leading away from the Bund, Nanjing Dong Lu is slowly returning to being the stylish street it once was, and it's a popular shopping spot for the locals. Some of the adjacent streets still have a faded glamour. The best time to visit is at night to stroll the neon-lit pedestrian road.
