Fodor's Shanghai's 25 Best, 3rd Edition
The location of this "experimental restaurant" by Paul Pairet (of Mr & Mrs Bund fame) is a secret. You meet at Mr & Mrs Bund and board a minibus bound for a location somewhere near Suzhou Creek. The 10-seat dining room at Ultraviolet is a world unto itself. Each course is paired with wraparound video projections, an appropriate song (The Beatles' "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da," for example, when Pairet serves his take on fish-and-chips), and even customized scents. A place at the table will cost you a cool Y2,500. Bookings are accepted three months in advance, and you'll need to put down a deposit.
