Fodor's Review

Back in 1848, this place was a simple fish shack on West Lake. Business boomed and it became the most famous restaurant in the province. With a focus on Zhejiang cuisine, Louwailou specializes in lake perch, which is steamed and served with vinegar sauce. Another highlight is the classic dongpo rou, pork slow cooked in yellow rice wine and tender enough to cut with chopsticks. Hangzhou's most famous dish, beggar's chicken, is wrapped in lotus leaves and baked in a clay shell. It's as good as it sounds.
