Knysna is a bit of a gourmet destination, and Zachary's, at the Pezula Resort Hotel and Spa, about a 10- to 15-minute drive from Knysna, has helped to cement that reputation. The restaurant specializes in high-quality organic and seasonal produce served in a stylish dining room with decor featuring splashes of orange, amber, bronze, and copper. The menu changes seasonally. First-course options might include dishes like shiitake mushroom broth or butter-poached crayfish,
and main dishes run to venison (eland, anyone?), line fish, scallops, and Karoo lamb. The Gourmand set menu is a six-course feast offered with wine pairings. As expected, there's an excellent wine list and a sommelier on hand to make recommendations.
