An attractive, stone-arched building on the edge of a residential neighborhood, with good bus lines and many eateries and shops just a short walk away, is not a bad recipe for the budget-conscious. Some rooms are a little cramped, others feel less-so: ask for an upper floor if stairs don't bother you. The renovated rooms have dark wood furniture and gold-hued curtains and carpets. Family units, with refrigerator and a balcony, sleep five. A sunken room with vaulted ceiling and wooden floor serves as an inviting bar, coffee shop, and Italian-inspired restaurant, spilling out into a shaded courtyard. Pros: intimacy; good value; nice neighborhood. Cons: a bit dowdy; no elevator.
