Wyoming in June

Hello:

I will be traveling with wife and kids (13,10) to western Wyoming from June 8-16. Rough itinerary is as follows.

June 8--Fly into Jackson. Check out Mormon Row. Staying at Spring Creek Ranch four nights.
June 9--Horseback ride. Explore downtown Jackson
June 10--National Museum of Wildlife Art. River Rafting.
June 11--Craig Thomas Visitor Center. Cascade Canyon Hike, picnic.
June 12--Yellowstone (Old Faithful, Paint Pots). Lake Yellowstone Hotel two nights.
June 13--Hayden Valley, Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Lower Falls, Ribbon Lake Loop trail.
June 14--Mammoth Hot Springs, Norris Geyser Basin. Overnight at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel.
June 15--Lamar Valley, Tower Fall. Drive to Cody. Cody Nite Rodeo. Overnight at The Cody.
June 16--Buffalo Bill Historical Center. Drive back to Jackson Airport for 6:25pm flight.

Questions:
1. Any activities/sites we're missing and would recommend in lieu of the above?
2. What kind of weather can we expect?
3. Any other hiking trails you would recommend besides the above?
4. How long a drive can we expect from Cody back to Jackson Hole Airport?

Thank you in advance.

How long a drive can we expect from Cody back to Jackson Hole Airport?

You've looked up the distance, right? Are you asking about possible traffic/weather conditions or what? How fast do you drive?

Correct. Google and other map apps give you a ballpark distance that assumes you drive constantly at the speed limit, excluding weather, crowd delays, et al. Is it better to go back through the parks or loop down through Thermopolis to get from Cody to Jackson airport?

I think you are somewhat early weather-wise.

I wasn't impressed with Mamoth (dry) and other have said the same in recent years.

I wouldn't bother with Tower Fall. It's living on it's prior reputation before the growth covered almost all of the waterfalls and before they closed the hiking path to the base.

At Canyon. There are several great views of the Lower Falls (I wouldn't bother with the Upper Falls at all). Red Rock Point requires walking down but a great angle of view. This is on the north side of the canyon. On the south side Artist Point is very good.

I would try to fit more time in to see Grand Tetons. There's a very nice Jenny Lake boat ride and hike.

Lamar and Hayden valleys are good for wildlife but most active early and late.

The Old Faithful area (Upper Basin ) is worth some time. OF is easy as it errupts more or less every 90 minutes.

Walk the Geyser Loop and/or the whole basin at different times of the day. Different experience. Out near Riverside geyser is Morning Glory. Great colors.

A few miles up the road from OF is Grand Prismatic Spring. Fantastic colors though not a very good view. For the best view drive back a mile towards OF and park at the Fairy Falls trailhead. Hike the first mile until you get to Grand Prismatic Spring on your right. You'll see a hill on the left with an unofficial trail up. Climb the hill for great elevated views of Grand Prismatic Spring. The hike is really a walk on a dirt road so it's very easy.

Myer,
Cascade Canyon is a longer version of Jenny Lake Boat Ride/hike.
Cascade Canyon may or may not be hikeable that early-depends on the snow.

I do agree with Myer on Mammoth also being my least favorite part or the park. I would still plan on seeing it though. I strongly disagree about skipping Tower Falls. I thought it was very nice!!

I think your Itinerary will work fine. Since you have lodging already, I don't think I would monkey around with changing much.

Your kids might like to ride the Alpine Slide on your day in Jackson

spiro,
I forgot that Cascade Canyon is the extension to the Jenny Lake hike.

I stick to my opinion about Tower Fall (no "s" at the end).

I would rather see any of several falls than Tower. Maybe Undine or others.

Regarding the drive back from Cody to Jackson, it takes about 45 min to 1 hour to get to the East YNP entrance from Cody Then if luck is on your side, no animal traffic jams, construction or road delays, overheated radiators, flat tires etc. it can be done in 3 hours.

Best bet is to stay overnight in Jackson before you leave.

2nd best is to make sure you leave for Jackson by noon.
