World Series in Chicago ?!?
WOW!!!
Who would have thunk
Anyway, congrats to the White Sox!!!
I'm not even a baseball fan, but since I'll be up there next Sunday to watch the Bears destroy the Ravens, I will try to actually see a World Series game after the Bears game.
Once again, CONGRATS to the White Sox!!!

Agreed, mamajo. I'd rather it was the Cubbies, but I'm a very excited Chicago baseball fan. Unfortunately, I was one of the thousands who couldn't get a ticket but I'll be avidly watching it from home or a bar, toasting my lovely city.

Needless to say, it's ME. SMILING!
When the Cubs were in the playoffs or close, I have always rooted visibly for them- but please no mentions here, please.
This is our time. But even some of the media people IN CHICAGO, have to preface their "way to go" with a Cubby comment. NOT NOW. Isn't it enough that they have the station (WGN) the national coverage and following from this, the money empire (TRIBUNE) etc.? Excuse me, please. Yes, a Napoleon complex, and well deserved. I can't even get my White Sox on a dish in MI unless their playing Detroit, for God's sake. And on MSN and lots of stations as soon as the Yankees,Boston fell out the coverage immediately went to football and basketball pre-season. Disgusting.
Sorry for any negativity at this time. I can root for a good Cubs team, but just get on the bandwagon already everybody- no need to preface. It sure is fun up here.
And one of my kids is in Sports Heaven. He is going to a Bears game at noon and a World Series the same night. OUR WORLD SERIES. Old men are waxing poetic about the writing going onto the field.
My father still has not talked to me yet. I've only got the baseball call from my mother. I'm waiting.
My flags are flying in two states and my banners (one is a 1996- 90 year 1906 commemorative pennant) are on my Saturn's side windows. This is really, really fun. And mostly because of how this team IS. Good people and not just great players. Their heads are all the right size and they did not lash out at each other during some very bad weeks. It was a great season and it is going to be a great World Series, rain or not.
I wish we could all sing the "Go, go, go White Sox" song together!

I am definitely on the bandwagon, and it is FUN! Just wanted to sharew a small funny story: my cabdriver in San Francisco yesterday (originally from Bulgaria) said he had never HEARD of the White Sox before, and at first thought it was just a funny reference to the Red Sox. But he's rooting for us, now that he knows we exist!

I routed for the uh ... other team too when they made their run, but I'll be so happy if we get it before them, they always have 'next year'
I'm happy too, unfortunately I'll be watching the game from a bar, and while I like living on the northside now, part of me wouldn't mind heading back down to my old south-side/ south-suburban stomping grounds to watch it properly. I know a lovely bar in Beverly that would be just perfect, but I know I won't make it down there for that.

Some of my old neighbors in Chicago Ridge, are heading to their Merionette PK location, Vittrad. The ones in Orland Park, Palos and Tinley are letting the kids take over the bars and restaurants and many are coming by me at the game when I am home. I can't imagine how places like Harrisons in Orland are going to be. It won't be tame.
There is an hilarious piece in today's Southtown (if you can get it). It's the paper that advertises "The North Side Just Doesn't Get It!"- but I have diverged again.
The article is the latest demographics about the opposing Chicago baseball fans. Do you know the income is almost identical, as are ages and education levels. The one biggest difference was if you had a parent or grandparent (and the average age for both fans is 45) that worked in the trades, mills, or industry.
When I went to get some Italian beef sandwiches at 179th & Wolf Rd. yesterday, Vittrad- they were already starting a party within the shop. This is serious fun like I have never seen in our workaholic, over-achiever environs. ENJOY!

JJ5- take no offense by the "prefacing"- it's only meant to show that even though you wish some other team was in the WS, you are happy enough for the Sox to put that aside and wish them the best. It's way better than indifference which is how I generally treat the WS. It's nice to get behind my city and watch the excitement unfold.

Welcome aschie30! I love baseball, and I love to watch the Pony Leagues as well. Isn't it neat to see the SOX lights on the buildings downtown?
And by me I've never seen so many ungrumpy old codgers in their caps. Some of them I hardly recognize without the scowl. You can actually see some teeth when they smile. NOT ALL THE teeth, but some teeth.

I have to admit I get a little misty-eyed when I read some of the stories in the Trib or hear them on the news. There is always someone who recounts what an avid fan their Mom was, and how she had the misfortune to die last year (peacefully albeit), but before she could see her beloved Sox in the Series. . .
Or someone who talks about going to the WS with Dad, who is practically 105 and has lived his whole life to see this . . .

y'all are makin me cry... tears of blissful joy for the players AND loyal fans including my own dear dad.
I'm enjoying this time with him so much... we surprised him with a playoff party a few weeks ago... he just wanted us all to be quiet so he could WATCH the game! Gotta love it!
I'm so glad we got him to the Cell last month... his first game attendance since the strike... sis and I took him (and mom) for his Father's Day gift... it was priceless... just like the old days.
Check out this great photo...

Oh rats! I wanted to see your photo makai1, and it came up "no longer available".
GOOD for you- getting your Dad over there. Mine is a stubborn German and is still in protest. Yet he walked to a St. Rita Football game a week ago and now one of his legs will hardly hold him up. I'm going to go put a Sox cap on his head and we'll take some pictures for the GTG.
Can't say I'll get him to put his bridge in for the picture though. He does what he wants to do.
Bet we score in the first Saturday.

Or how some people both distance AND close (like my Uncle in Clearwater who calls me ever time Tampa Bay wins)- are silent as a tomb.
As AAFrequentFlyer said in the beginning, "Who would have thunk".
And we have a very strict dress code in some arenas here, but I have my full black and white jersey head to toe on today.
GO SOX!
Guys, you should read the stats of the current White Sox players against Clements' pitching. WOA!- it's not good to be TOO optimistic but it doesn't look good for Houston.
Aside: I thought the Police Chief's announcement about terrorist procedures etc. around U.S. Cellular Field last night was priceless. He does have a good sense of humor.
