Williamsburg Lodge is booked for next April! Can we walk to the historic district from the Williamsburg Woodlands???
We would really like to stay at the Williamsburg Lodge but the reservations niumber said that they are booked because of April being high season and many conventions. I thought I had given this plenty of time to reserve a room, but I guess not. We have booked a room for two nights at the Woodlands Hotel.
My questions are:
Can you walk to the historic area from the Woodlands Hotel? They told me it was 5 blocks when I called the 1-800-HISTORY phone number.
AND:
Is the Williamsburg Woodlands the same property as the Woodlands Hotel?
Thank you all for any information you can provide.

The Woodlands is on the 'park' property and is a reasonable (not necessarily across the street) walk from the edge of the historic district. However, the free shuttle bus originates at the Visitors Center which is adjacent to the Woodlawns. It works just fine; you can walk when you want to and take the bus when you don't.

We just got back from the Woodlands last week. It is a very easy walk to the hisoric district, plus is a great place for kids with all the recreational activities and bike rentals. The new building is very nice and a better value than the lodge, IMO.

Thanks for your responses...
I just had something interesting happen. After I posted my questions, I decided to call again directly to the 800 number to see about the difference in the two names. What I was told is "the old Woodlands is now called "Cascade" and the new hotel is called "The Woodlands Hotel". Both are on the same property.
AND the best part...after speaking with two other reservation people and being told that there was no availability, I spoke with a lady and asked again for a reservation at the Lodge. She put me on hold and then came back and said that they DID have availability. I was able to book a room for two nights in April.
I'm very happy as this is where I really wanted to stay.
Just goes to show you...NO doesn't always mean NO! It just depends on who you speak with.
