Wide Open to suggestions for FL
Planning a road trip in june or july for a family of 4 - a 15 year old and a 3 year old. Hoping to spend a couple of days at Universal and Disney and then 4-5 days at a semi-luxury resort. Wanting good scuba diving and snorkeling, good food and fun for both kids. Hoping to recreate something similar to our trip to the TCI Beaches resort where everything was included on a hotel/food/entertainment budget of about $500 per day (not figuring we'll find an AI resort). Thinking of Miami or the Keys, but not sure. Where are best reefs? Where to start? Any thoughts?

Sorry, can't help you with a semi-luxury resort but I've heard good things about Amy Slate's in the Upper Keys http://www.amoray.com/ I have not dove with them. There are a number of good dive shops in Key West. I can vouch for http://www.divekeywest.com/ as a good dive shop and also http://www.southpointdivers.com/. There are no dive "reefs" near Miami but the Keys have beautiful coral, lots of sea life and some good wrecks to dive if that's your thing...

I think your best bet for scuba and snorkeling will be in the Keys. Key Largo on your way to Key West has John Pennecamp: http://www.pennekamppark.com/ and then further down is Bahia Honda, not sure about snorkeling there but a beautiful State Park: http://www.bahiahondapark.com/http:/
Once in Key West: http://www.keywesttravelguide.com/snorkel.html and then you have the Dry Tortugas:http://www.floridakeys.com/keywest/d...s-key-west.htm

If you are going to Universal, stay at one of their on site hotels. They are great hotels and you will get automatic express access to all the attractions by showing your room key. The parks get crowde and HOT in the summer so this perk is priceless!

Key Largo is huge for divers. We just got back (we're not divers) and stayed at Ocean Point in Tavernier. Remember, the Keys don't have the wide sandy beaches of other parts of Florida. You can read about my recent trip here:

Thanks so much - these are great suggestions. After talking with my husband, I'm kind of debating the whole idea of this type of trip. We've been to Orlando in the spring, so the heat of the summer, even if just for a few days, isn't as appealing as I was thinking. I'm also a little concerned about the lack of beaches in the Keys, which is where I'd hoped to focus most of our time. We want a nice balance of activities (we're ruling out diving, but definitely want to snorkel) and leisure. Any suggestions on resorts in the Keys and/or Miami that we can bum around? Wanting to limit having to stress over a schedule by having multiple options onsite like maybe golf, nice pool, good food, kiddie activies, etc.
