Where is your favorite place to stay in Destin Florida??
Hi,
We are planning a first time trip to Destin, Florida. We are looking for a good place to stay in the price range of $150 - $175 a night. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also, can we get oceanfront for this?

I am going to Destin in 10 days and renting a 2 BR condo at Silver Shells for $160.00/night. This is the off season - great info at beachdirectory.com, destinchamber.com
abbott-resorts.com, beachesofsouthwalton.com,destin-fwb.com
I can't give you any first hand info, this is my first visit. There are tons of condos without a restaurant but prices are reasonable. There is a Hilton, Ramada, Sheraton etc. for full service.

Liz, can you tell me about your stay at Silver Shells when you return? I am also interested in good Destin Resorts and would like a 2 bedroom condo with all the services of a hotel resort like the Hilton. Let me know about your experience with Silver Shells. Thank you.

Thank you, please let me know. I actually just booked it because I was afraid of losing out since I'll be going during June. It looks and sounds wonderful and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions if you don't mind contacting me and letting me know. Thanks and enjoy. I'm sorry I'm not going sooner.

hi there pamela! I would definitely recommend the Beach Street Cottages...they aren't on the beach, but i have stayed there while waiting to get into another place, and had a good stay each time. I would recommend Edgewater and Hidden Dunes. Both excellent, however, could be slightly above your price range. I suggest going to abbott rentals webpage also.

Kathy - just got back last night from Silver Shells- fantastic rooms. Our 2BR had 3 tvs/vcrs (needed in the rain/colder time we were there)
Full kitchen, brand new appliances immaculate. Beautiful decorating in light pine, royal blue and yellow. The outdoor pool was huge/awesome. Large hot tub for me. My boys (14 & 11) loved the pool size. You'd need it in the summer. The beach was beautiful, lovely to walk on. The indoor pool was small, not a concern for June. The health club state of the art. The small market was nice - pricey and gourmet but well stocked. Didn't try the Grille. The grounds are sparse since it's new-more buildings on the way. It is in a very built up section of 98 - Wal-mart and strip malls, fast food across the street, several excellent restaurants within walking or 1/4 mile, Blockbuster, Amusement parks also. A little East was Hidden Dunes and Tops'l with less commercialism and more trees. Tops'l was our second choice (for tennis), it looked nice but didn't drive in- very spread out. It has a market and restaurant too. I don't know if SS has any kind of snack bar at the pool area/beach in the summer and I think Tops'l and Hidden Dunes does. Pelican is another good choice, smaller property.
We liked being close to the stores and food - we weren't doing any cooking on this trip. We ate at Destin Diner for Bkfst, The Back Porch(walk to), Pompano Joes (loved both) and Landry's(good but liked the least. Shoped at Silver Sands outlet. I was happy with our choice. My 11 year old said it was worth the trip just for the pool and hot tub. Let me know if you have any question! Liz
