What to wear in New York - Thanksgiving Weekend
Traveling to New York in late November. Have never been there during colder weather...what is the proper fashionable attire during time if year? Need day outfits for shopping etc and for at night out on the town.

Weather can be dicey. At Thanksgiving it can be really cold - or it can be in the 50's during the day - so you need to watch for a couple of days before hand.
If you want to be fashionable - boots that you can walk in easily (low or wedge heels), leather or good cloth coats (NOT puffy except for a blizzard), for day good jeans (or cords) and sweaters are fine. For a nice restaurant switch to good wool slacks or a skirt and pretty blouse or sweater.
Black is always good and there is a lot of purple (really plum) this year. And the ever present neck scarf accessory.
If you have room really high heels are trendy (for going out) but make sure you won;t have to walk far.

Not sure if it's changed in the last year, but when it was cold in NYC we saw fur, fur, and more fur. It was like a visit to the Sarah Palin trophy room. Fur is really in in NYC it seemed -- coats, hats, and trimmed boots.

Hi for my nice outfits...I was going to wear my "riding" style boots with stretch pants and long(dress like sweaters). Depending on weather...Ugg boots(Black) with my skinny jeans for just trekking around town however during day...it if rains..I am bringing my Chooka Rain Boots(http://www.amazon.com/Chooka-Womens-...AY9G8DC22QRFA0) because I hear that the Uggs will get trashed with puddles.
Got plenty of cute scarfs and gloves to bring(just need to decide which ones) and my one thicker wool coat(planning on buying a new one out there). I plan on wearing long sleeve scoop neck tee's as a base layer my sweaters in addition to my wool coat. I hope that is enough layering...otherwise...I will have to shop in NYC.

Hi
Well, be sure to wear something warm Check http://www.weatherbase.com for weather stats. I went to NYC with my wife in December last year and we had some pretty cold days there but we came prepared with hats, gloves etc. Maybe you can find some useful info in our trip report with pictures and links on our homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/NYC_travelogue_2007.htm . Get in touch if you have any questions
Regards

If you haven't done so already, use the Ugg waterproofing spray on your boots. Also, layer, layer, layer. This past weekend the weather did a lot of fluctuating warm/cool rainy, etc. It has also snowed on Thanksgiving in NY. I find that it helps to keep a thin pair of driving gloves in my pockets and throw a scarf around my neck. Also you can buy gloves, scarves and hats on just about any street corner.

Thank you...you just reminded me to spray my riding boots too. I just had rubber soles put on them as well...to prevent slipping...just in case. I think i am going to end up taking my Uggs, rainboots and riding boots. They are all cute...so why not!
