Whale Watching - Kauai

Will be in Kauai Jan 25 to Feb 9, and have just learned that Napali Cat will not be operating (they are closed until March). Any info on companies that specialize in Whale Watching - rather than the regular snorkling package???

I'm hoping for some responses to this post as well. I can hardly wait to return to Kauai (Jan. 16) and am thinking about a whale watching excursion -- preferably from the North Shore. But I'm not interested in snorkeling either.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Most of the companies that do the Na Pali Coast in the summer, run a whale watching tour in the winter. They will usually go down the south shore, which is usually protected in the winter months. Captain Andys and Blue Dolphin are the bigger companies that use nice, big catamarans that can handle Hawaii's rough ocean conditions. I have ridden Capt Andys on the whale watch and its a real AWESOME trip. Especially if the whales are in a playful mood!

What months are the windows of opportunity for Whale Watching? We were thinking of a trip in September.

December through March is the usual timeframe, however there are sightings as early as Novmeber and as late as April some years. We saw many in Maui last February.
