Weekend in Atlanta

Hello, my wife and I will be in atlanta for a weekend in late november. Neither of us has been there before and are wondering about things to do. We are looking for some nice restaurnats and places to go out, such as clubs. I have heard good things about the buckhead area. We are in our mid-twenties. Any suggestions???

1) Dantes in Buckhead
Fondue, sit with the jazz $6 extra but worth it. Live crocs in the moat-honest. Reserve a table and ask for a large table overlooking the jazz try table 113. If you get a small table ask to be moved to a top table at once. they do this to see if you'll not say anything, evil trick i know. Located on Peachtree Road in Buckhead across from the Lenox Mall and Swisshotel.
Romantic, different- mood

2) Cafe Tu Tu Tango
In Buckhead, interesting, 'starving artists' entertainment nightly -call to inquire and directions. Located off Peachtree road in buckhead, south of Lenox mall, take peachtree road to the west paces ferry/peachtree/east paces ferry intersection (fox theatre kinda on right, starbucks on left and some bars) make a left onto east paces ferry road, and a right onto the next street. Ask someone. it is right there but may be hard to see.
Fun, loud, interesting -mood

Other things in Buckhead:
Irish Pub - Fados (on Peachtree road in same neighborhood as Cafe Tu tu tango)

Fago De Chao- Brazilian steakhouse, bring your appetite price fix menu $35 per person and worth it! Imagine brazillian men in gancho pants servering 14 or so meats on large swords, sounds odd but an experience.

3) Imax and martinis
Fernbank Musuem on Friday nights
early enough to go out before or after
Take Ponce De Leon all the way down away from the city, take a left onto Clifton Road, across from the golf course you will be there.

4) High Musuem of Art
Why not?! On Peachtree Road in midtown
See exhibit and stop in the free telocity musuem if you have an ounce of geek in you

5) Call now and see the rockets or a play at the Fox theatre downtown on Peachtree Road

6) Virginia Highlands
Cute shops, charming neighborhood to walk, cool bars, coffee houses and restaurants perfect for 20 somethings. To get there if you are staying downtown take Ponce De Leon all the way down away from the city (heading east) to N. Highland Avenue, turn left onto N. Highland Avenue. Neighborhood has three sections on the same road. In between each section are quaint houses. Park and take a stroll. Hint parking available behind shops and on side streets. A must see.

7) Little Five Points
Only if you have an ounce of punk in your blood and are slightly, um, alternative. or do smak. Funky shops, cute cuban restauraunt called la fonda, coffee shops, skate store and rave shops, have a sangria and relax. To get here take ponce de leon all the way down away from the city (east) take a right onto Monroe. You will hit Little Five Points.

Q? What if I am not staying downtown how do I get to these places without taking ponce de leon?

Options: Take 85 to N. Druid Hills Road, head east, make a right onto Briarcliff road. Follow briarcliff all the way down to ponce. For the highlands turn right, then take a right onto N. Highland Ave. For Little five, cross over Ponce de leon and the road becomes monroe so simply continue straight, for the fernbank, make a left off of briarcliff onto ponce de leon ave, and make a left onto clifton road.

Late night eats:
The Vortex - on Peachree road downtown south of ponce, i think, and also a location in little five points. very friendly despite hard exterior

The Landmark Diner and Grill - 24 hours.

BTW - I have too much time on my hands.

Thanks for the response, very helpful. I've also heard about the peachtree area, how is the nightlife in that area?

Brandon, just a thought. I'm unclear from your post if this is a business trip or just for pleasure and if you are staying downtown or elsewhere. Atlanta is one of those towns that you really would not want to be staying downtown at all unless you need to for business. Stay mid town or Buckhead if you haven't already arranged so. This is not to degrade the downtown, but I can tell you are looking for fun, good restaurants, and entertainment. That isn't what downtown is all about.

I'm not a club-goer so I can't give you any advice on that.

There are any number of restaurants in Buckhead but I prefer the Virginia-Highlands area myself. Just head down east Ponce De Leon to Virginia and take a left. It's less "ultra trendy", relaxed and a bit less expensive. You can eat, grab a drink and just stroll around. The Black Horse Tavern is a good one and I like to eat at Murphy's or Everybody's Pizza.

On a higher scale, I've heard good things about Sotto Sotto, Watershed, Sweet Devil Moon and Loco Luna. They're not in Va. High.

The Martinis and IMAX thing is a good idea, too. The IMAX movie about the Vienna riding school just came and it's supposed to be very good. Be sure to get tickets ahead of time as it often sells out. Check out the Fernbank Museum of Natural Science Web site for info.

The High Museum is also having a very good Winslow Homer exhibit right now.
