Vegetarian Food in Hawaii

I leave for Hawaii in 3 days and am wonering if anyone has any particular reccomendations for restaurants that have good vegetarian food. We will be in honolulu for 2 days, driving from Hilo to Volcano National park and then on to Kona for a total of 2 days on the Big Island, then off to kauai for 6 days. the whole restaurant need not be veggie as my group is varied... but i would like to have a few options. (no fish, nodairy). thanks for any input. I am so excited I stil can't believe i am really going.

http://vsh.org/Veg-Friendly-Businesses gives the Oahu choices from Veggie Society of Hawaii.

For Maui and esp Kauai try the fun Bubba chain of burger stands http://planet-hawaii.com/~bubba/index.html

Quoting from their site:
"WE CHEAT TOURISTS, DRUNKS, AND ATTORNEYS"

"Bubba has finally given in to the pressure from non meat eating humans and now offers an organic Ginger/Teriyaki Tempeh Burger produced here in the Islands."

Oh, assuming you'll stay in Waikiki the options are kind of slim there except for occasional dishes. A nice exception is on the back side of Planet Hollywood (Beach Walk/Kalakaua) is Marie's Health Food Store/Organic Cafe with great lunch treats (veggie and non, closed Sun).

If you are in the area of Ward Warehouse/Ward Centre in Honolulu, there is Mocha Java at Ward Centre on the ground floor that has vegetarian and vegan items. Many of my friends also like Down To Earth on 2525 South King Street.

Look for a Maui Taco restaurant, and you can get, inexpensive, delicious vegetarian food. My wife and I are vegetarians (ovo-lacto) and we ate 3 times at Maui Taco for lunch. Hope you find one. Ask around or look in the telephone book in your hotel room.

My husband is a vegetarian and we eat out a lot, although not normally at strict vegetarian places. Most Asian places have lots of vegetarian options. Thai, chinese, Indian, and Vietnamese all usually have quite a few vegetarian selections, although you have to ask to make sure the broths aren't fish based. I love Mekong on Beretania Street. They'll make any of their dishes vegetarian. The Veg Society site is good, especially for strict vegans.

Ditto Lcuy's comment
Tons of great avocado in Hawaii that I remember think it trickels over from California. Maybe it was just a seasonal thing I caught it in late August. I could not believe the size of those suckers, big.
