Vacation Home Key West

We loved Key West so much that we bought a home there 15 months after our first visit to the Island. We are Canadians and not ready to retire for about five years so we will be renting this home when we are not using it. However I understand that there are people that trade their vacation homes with others who have vacation homes, like trading timeshare weeks. Does anyone know how I would go about doing this? Thanks

Be aware that there are laws forbidding renting of illegal homes, units, apartments, for less then 30 days unless you have the proper license.

Debbie, dig up the threads on this board and the Europe board on home exchanges. I believe the header called it home swap. Organizations like HomeLink that help arrange vacation exchanges also help expedite other types of swaps, including non-simultaneous exchanges of second homes. Or just go to www.swapnow.com and read their stuff.

We are fully aware of the monroe county ordinance pertaining to transient licences. This ordinance has been passed but I do not believe it is being enforced yet. However, we do have a transient licence on our property.

Talk to your a realtor down here. It is a common thing. You also might want to look into renting long term (months at a time) to locals or people who only need a rental for a few months out of the year.
