Ultimate Shopping Trip - Need suggestions

I am looking for suggestions of cities anywhere in the USA for a 4 day shopping trip for my mom and I.
We both love to shop and are tired of the limited selection of womens apparel and accesories the stores in our area have to offer (we live in western Canada). We are not looking for pricey boutiques or local vendors/specialty shops just an area with good prices and lots of stores to shop at! Thanks for your suggestions!

Las Vegas has something for everyone, in all price ranges. From Ceasers Forum (about 80 specialty shops) select from the unique or a variety of Department stores are available.

It's true that all those places are fantastic for shopping. I've ben to them all BUT you can have all that and more in NYC. There are some great shopping tours that take you to the special sample sales and into show rooms of famous designers just for fun! The Big Apple is where it's at!

The outlet shops in Reading, Pennsylvania are very large with lots of shops with many tour groups frequenting as a destination. I realize this is a far haul for you, but this area is very close to Amish/Pennsylvania Dutch country and there are side trips that can be had that are beautiful. This is definitely a different shopping experience.

I second the suggestion for Reading, PA. Wonderful outlet shops as well as antique shops/malls. Same type retail places (multiple outlet malls as well as individual shops) can be found southwest of Reading in the eastern Lancaster (Amish) area. You will probably run into some flea markets and wonderful farmer's markets especially on the week-end. The thing that is so great about shopping in PA is that there is no sales tax on clothing! You should find excellent B&B's in this area (and fabulous homey restaurants) as well as non-shopping entertainment. Plenty to do in this area to fill several days...shopping and otherwise. Please email me directly for more information. I live about 2 hours away and my daughter & I are chomping at the bits to go right now!

A little closer to your home, try San Francisco for lovely boutiques as well as big stores, the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto has all the goodies in a first class setting and then farther down on Route 101 in Gilroy are the outlets at Gilroy. Think you could get a relatively inexpensive airfare from Western Canada and do some serious shopping! Oh, almost forgot, the Great Mall of Milpitas also near San Jose but not as upscale as the others I've mentionned.

The Philadelphia area is ideal: the King of Prussia Mall is almost as big as the Mall of Americas, and just as good in my opinion. There is an amazing outlet mall called Franklin Mills in Philadelphia also, with outlets for stores like Nieman Marcus, BCBG, and Ann Taylor, among MANY others. And Reading and Lancaster, two other outlet malls mentioned, are only an hour away from Philadelphia, so you could stay either there or near Philadelphia and get to go to them all.

I agree with the idea of flying to Philadelphia and driving to (in order of importance: Reading, Lancaster and Franklin Mills) Reading will easily take one whole day, it really has 2 distinct areas to shop among other things it has a (3 story)half -price Vanity Fair for lingerie, a half price Lees for outer-wear. and a half-price Godiva Chocolatier (no, there's nothing wrong with the Chocolate!!) Be sure and bring an extra totally empty suitcase, you are gonna need it!) Good time for sales right after July 4, and right after New Year's day. Reading and Lancaster are 30-40 minutes apart; Franklin Mills is on the outskirts of Philly.

Forget all those long treks to the eastern US etc. Visit the San Francisco Bay area. The Great America Mall in Milpitas is a true outlet mall with 185 stores. Great prices and selection. The largest flea market in the world in San Jose. Don't let the word flea market scare you off. They have over 2500 vendors and sell mostly new stuff. If you want more upscale than you can shop at Macy's, Nordstom's or many other shopping centers etc. Prices will probably be a little better in the San Jose area than San Francisco but I would spend time in both areas. Apart from the shopping, the San Francisco Bay area is a great area to visit and San Francisco is one of the great cities of the world. Like one of the others said, airfare should be very reasonable into either San Francisco or San Jose. If you aren't familiar with the area, San Jose is about 45 miles south of San Francisco.

Holy Cow! It looks like I'm going to have to start saving some pretty serious money to try some of these great suggestions! I truly appreciate all of your ideas - this posting worked out really well. Just to update whoever is following this - we decided to go to Las Vegas - simply because it is so much easier/cheaper for us to get there (for our first excursion anyway). New York city and surrounding areas will probably be our next choice. As soon as our dollar makes some gains - we'll start planning the trip. Right now, it's just too damn expensive for us Canadians to travel in the U.S.! Can't Wait!

There's some good shopping everywhere but I do think Mpls. has great shopping (and I live in L.A.). They have the Mall of America, Southdale, Ridgedale, the Galleria, the stores at 50th and France in Edina, the stores on Lake Ave. in Wayzata and of course the stores downtown Mpls which include the Main Dayton's Dept. Store (a whole city block) and Gaviidae Common whichi includes Neiman Marcus, Saks 5th Ave. and lots more. Always find just what I want in Mpls. I also like shopping in Rochester, Mn. at the Mall downtown attached to the Kahler Hotel. Some lovely unique things. Have fun!
