Two days before Hawaiian (Honolulu) cruise, hotel suggestions please

A few years ago this community was so helpful in a large family trip. Thanks to all who help other travelers. Husband & I celebrating 50th and will take a 7 day NCL Pride of America cruise of the islands. We will arrive 3 days before the cruise but with flight time we will plan 2 full days of sightseeing. Would like suggestions for a 3 or 4 star hotel that is not too far from the port. Any restaurants suggestions near the hotel would also be appreciated.
thanks again.

Aloha! We have a condo in Honolulu these days but have used Hilton Hawaiian Village but the Halekulani next door would be first choice--they are at the edge of Waikiki but on the end of it closer to the port; open space next door at Fort DeRussy; nice restaurants at Halekulani and outdoor music and drinks right at the water's edge.

Have a lovely time! We also like lunch at the Honolulu Academy of Art Cafe. Will you get a car or take taxis? I don't know of a good hotel close to the port; maybe someone else will have a suggestion.

The Waikiki area is the most fun place to stay where you will in the heart of the best restaurant and shopping district as well as walking distance from great beaches. It is a 15 minute drive from the cruise port. There are many great hotels there. My favorites are Moana Surfrider and Outrigger at the Beach. (Not the Outrigger Reef ).

Waikiki is a very small area. Any hotel there will be fine for you. When you say "3 or 4 star" what price range are you seeking?

This site will show you aerials and rates and give a general review of almost every lodging in Hawaii: www.hawaiirevealed.com

Stay Waikiki. I like the Royal Hawaiian. We've also had a nice, large room at the Ilikai (quieter, but not walking distance to much of Waikiki unless you're more of a walker than I am).

Sue (also at the 50-year mark)

Princess Kaiulani Hotel is less expensive than some, not all, of the other hotels that have been suggested here. It is located across the street from the beach rather than right ON the beach. You will have many options on Waikiki, which is where I would definitely stay.

This is great information. I will begin to research your suggestions and I know I will have a few more questions. I am unsure price range just know I want a really nice place which is close to the water and getting to the ship, Our cruise leaves 4/11/15. Has anyone tried Priceline or Travelosity and just requested the area and a 4 or 5 star hotel?
I am alway amazed how kind and helpful people are-- thanks again.

We booked the Royal Hawaiian for our 40th anniversary, and were upgraded to an ocean view room because of our celebration. It is a magical place.
