Hi....Our family will be travelling to a soccer game in Baltimore at the end of July. Our debate is do we stay in Baltimore or DC....as we would like to do some sightseeing. Would it be easy to take a train? rail? to Baltimore if we did stay in DC? The game is on the wknd & I read somewhere trains don't run on wknds. We simply travel by car where we live...no mass transportation..so a bit overwhelmed! Also any suggestions of safe areas to stay. We then plan to take a train to NYC & spend the majority of our trip there & will be flying home from New York. Any advice/tips would be extremely helpful!

Evidently you are incapable of your own research considering that a quick check on Amtrak's website would refute that statement.
Where are you traveling from?
What else are you asking? Where to stay in DC? Dupont Circle, Farragut, Georgetown are all fine areas but what do you want to do in DC? How many days will you be in the area? Where is the soccer match in Baltimore?
Answer those questions and you'll be able to get more help.
Two trains run from DC to Baltimore, AMTRAK & MARC. I imagine the OP might have been referring to the MARC train which does not run on weekends, but is less expensive on weekdays than AMTRAK. Many people use it to commute between DC & Baltimore. U can go to AMTRAK website to check the schedule and price.
If u have a few days then I would consider staying in DC. It's easy to get to Baltimore from UNion Station in DC. The redline metro in DC goes to Union Station. More info as to how much time and where in Baltimore would be useful.
Are you flying in to BWI airport and flying out from a NYC airport? There is an Amtrak station at BWI. The next Amtrak station going north is in the northern part of Baltimore.
There are many Amtrak trains everyday on the Northeast corridor.
Union Station in Washington DC is on top of a major Metro station. Just because you are going to NYC does not mean you have to use one of the New York airports. There is an Amtrak station at the Newark airport (EWR) as well.
There is no point that I can see to riding the Acella train to arrive only a few minutes sooner. amtrak.com
By any chance, are you seeing the Spurs/Liverpool game? We're thinking about going to that game too.
www.amtrak.com can get you there from DC in about 40 minutes for as little as $11.00 pp each way.
1st time I've posted on here so I apologize if I wasn't specific enough. Yes..we are going to Liverpool game. So far we only have the game tickets because we're trying to decide where to fly into which depends on where we stay. We're flying from STL early on Friday 7/27...game's on Saturday. We'll only be in Baltimore/DC area for a few days because then we want to take a train Monday 7/30 to NYC and fly home Friday 8/3. I did hear its better to fly out of Newark. So looking for suggestions where to stay in DC/Baltimore..somewhere in between? And also looking for suggestions for NYC as well. Some things we'd like to see in NY: Rockefeller Ctr, Ground Zero, Statue of Liberty, Central Pk, etc. Dont know how much sightseeing we'll get to in DC...I do understand Anapolis is beautiful so would like to go there.

There really is nowhere to stay in-between Baltimore and DC. I would check airfares into the 3 DC airports and c where u can get the best fare. If BWI has the best fare and u want to save $$, u might stay in Baltimore. I think there is plenty to do in Baltimore for Friday afternoon and before the game on Saturday. U could take the train on Sunday and spend the day in DC and then return to Baltimore that evening and take Amtrak from Baltimore to NYC.
U might prefer just to stay in DC and go to Baltimore for the game. Most convenient for staying in DC is to fly into DCA. Of course there is plenty to do in DC and u could easily fill up Friday and Saturday before and after the game as well as all day Sunday sightseeing in DC. U would leave from Union Station to get to Baltimore and also for your train to NYC on Monday. I like the DuPont Circle area in DC or Penn quarter has a lot going on these days. DC is easy to navigate using its metro.

You also need to start lookng for a hotel in NYC - since the best deals usually go quickly. What is your budget and how many of you are there (many hotels in NYC are for 2 people only) - if you need a double double (2 dboule beds you need to specify that).
In terms of what you want to see, the Statue of Liberty is closed this summer. You can get a decent view from the free Staten Island ferry or a closer view from one of the Circle Line boat tours. The ferry that goes to the Island is run by the Park Service and you need to go to their web site now to get advance tickets to avoid a potentially long wait (as it is the security line - ariline-type security, no big bags - takes at least 30 minutes). Do note that the same ferry goes on to the Ellis Island Immigration museum, which is brilliant. For the ferry rides, museum and return you should allow at least 4 hours.
