Travellers Beware

We recently stayed at the Timberwolf Resort in Hungry Horse, Montana. This is a nickel and dime operation, poorly managed resort. They over charged us and refused to returned $140.00. The communal bathrooms were dirty and smelled of urine. They have a weird policy of closing the main bathroom at 10pm so you better have a large bladder. The resort is situated next to highway 2 and sounds like your camping on the runway at the airport. Spare yourself the pain and stress and avoid the Timberwolf Resort.

folks - chinook01 registered simply to post this. Definitely sounds troll-like IMHO.

But at least w/ a title like that, probably no one considering staying at this place will ever see the thread . . . .

I took a look at the website, and quite frankly, I don't think the OP did much research. For starters, the word "campground" is on every page. And they clearly state that you're going to share a bathroom; so yes, it'll probably smell like a bathroom.

I'd like to hear more specifics about how the place "overcharged" and "nickel and dimed" which are not interchangeable terms.

We have stayed at many campgrounds and resorts and have never experienced anything like this. A little cleaning can make a world of difference. The resort overcharged $140.00 for an RV site that we never requested or used and they refuse to refund us our money because they said we agreed to it because we signed the regulations form and the only reason we signed the regulations form was because the front desk personnel told us they would take care of it...big mistake!!

If you were overcharged, take it up with your credit card company. They can handle it for you.

IF you were charged something you didn't get - then dispute it through your credit card company . . .

We submitted a dispute claim to the credit card company but even that has turned into a hassel. Now the credit card co can not find the claim. During our stay at the Timberwolf Resort, I tried contacting the owners and left several messages asking them to please call us or stop by the cabin to explain the charges to us but they completely avoided us. We have never encountered anything like this before but I guess that is what you get for making travel arrangements at the last minute. A very valuable lesson learnt.

I hope you also leave a review on Tripadvisor.com, since that is where most people look for hotel reviews.

This is a RUSTIC, mountain resort w/ basic cabins and camp spaces. It ain't the Ritz - and doesn't try to be.

When a resort stresses it has "flush toilets" you know it is in the boonies and pretty darn basic.

Do I understand you signed that you occupied an RV space, but didn't use it after all?

This statement you made in one post has me puzzled.

"The resort overcharged $140.00 for an RV site that we never requested or used and they refuse to refund us our money because they said we agreed to it because we signed the regulations form and the only reason we signed the regulations form was because the front desk personnel told us they would take care of it...big mistake!!"

How were you "overcharged" for an RV site you never used and did not reserve and did not agree to rent(?). Were you in an RV when you arrived and if so did you stay in one of their sites.

I must admit that this is a strange story. So far I did not discover any other report on the web about this place.

The party got overcharged despite the fact that they have obviously signed the credit card slip personally at the campground/resort ? How can that be ?

Well it seems to be these guys simply made the wrong decision due to lack of information or research. In my opinion it simply unfair to post a negative feedback and blame someone else for their own stupidity.

I always wonder how people find Fodor's forum, just to register and post a single complaint.
