Has anyone been to the Wolf Lodge? Thinking of 2 or 3 nights there and 3 or 4 somewhere else in the area. More details above. Thanks

snorklesue, your posts don't stay together on this board--things get moved around based on when people respond.
So you need to copy what you wrote in the other post you refer to
("More details above.") and add it in as a reply here so everyone can see it all in one place.
Hope you get some good ideas from those who know the area.

My family lives in NY, Pittsburgh and Boston. We are looking for a place (warmer than any of these places) to meet in March to celebrate a daughter's birthday. We are 4 adults and 2 children, 3 and 2 years old. I heard about Wolf Lodge indoor water park which sounds like it could be fun for a couple days. I am looking for suggestions for other places to go near Charlotte-we all like the outdoors so a hotel in or near a preserve or park would be great.
Also open to any other suggestions for a place to go for this family get-together other than Charlotte. Thanks.

This does not describe the area around Wolf Lodge. For kids, Wolf Lodge is surely fun, but a day or so in the water park is probably enough. March is tough to predict in NC - it's most likely too cold for a lot of outside fun (surprisingly early March is one of our best chances for snow).
Yours is a tough problem. Assuming you're flying, you need a major airport (for all your originating points) and want to be far south enough for decent weather probably without bumping up against Florida's spring break crowds.
I could recommend Wolf Lodge combined with some time in Asheville, but as great as Asheville is, and as closely as it matches you're interests in the outdoors, the weather may not be cooperative, especially for a 2 and 3 year old.

It could be almost as cold in western NC as where your families are coming from.
(Not quite sure why you re-posted - the original thread's title was just fine http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...arlotte-nc.cfm )

Our grandson has been to birthday parties there (sleepovers) and had a wonderful time. You can come on into Charlotte and go to Discovery Place, and if you plan right, perhaps a children's theater play at Imaginon. Google for Children's Theater Charlotte for the schedule. Imaginon itself would be worth a visit for your kids--it's a children's library branch with activities for them.
YOu could also go to Latta Place Plantation north of Charlotte--it's an historic home, but also has a petting zoo/animal exhibit. And there is a raptor center on the same road that the children could enjoy.
And if the water park at Great Wolf isn't enough, you could go to Ray's Splash Planet in Charlotte, but probably it would be just similar, and add cost.
Concord is "NASCAR", but that area is more all about an immense shopping mall. It isn't really the Speedway there unless it is a race weekend.

Actually if you wanted something else within an hour or so, you could also go to Winston Salem and tour Old Salem. Be sure to take the kids to Winkler Bakery for some goodies. I have a great memory of our children sitting down on the cobblestone curb and eating from a loaf of their delicious bread!! They make sweets also!!
Your children are young, but there is lots to do in the area.
