tickets anywhere

I have miles that must be purchased before the end of the year. I would like to go to savannah, but if that does not work out, what suggestion do you have? We have been to San Francisco, Boston, New York, Phoenix, Charleston. What five places would you recommend next? Our trips are usually 4 days - long weekend. We would like to go in April.

Try a combination of Charleston and Savannah. A Hampton Inn is centrally located in each city. Fly to Charleston, rent a car, drive to Savannah for a couple of days and return to Charleston. Be sure to take the "Garden of Good and Evil" tour in Savannah. Perfect trip for 4-5 days.

California is a wonderful destination spot for April. Choose from the sunny skies of LA, San Diego or Palm Springs. You can't go wrong.

Sandy,Try New Orleans,Louisiana or
Fort Lauderdale,Florida. New Orleans has great food, music, drinks and it's lot's of fun too.Plenty to see and do.Ft Lauderdale is fun.We stayed at a beach front resort.Walked to Las Olas Blvd. and went on a speed boat ride! Lot's of fun!! I've been to Boston,San Francisco,New York and
Phoenix also.I liked all of them!

New Orleans or the Florida Keys. They're both fantastic at that time of year (a plus is that the Keys is past it's high season by then).

Hi Cindy,You say that the Florida Keys are past their high season the end of April....can you tell me what part of the Keys is your favorite and what resort you would recommend?
I'm trying to get some ideas for a trip the end of April/May. Thanks.

Debbie: There's a lot of good Keys info in some of the other recent Fodors threads. A lot depends on how much time you have, and if you want to go cheap or up-market. For example, Hawk's Cay, near Marathon, is upscale for middle Keys (240/night +) but is a superb resort hotel. The Hyatt in KW is highly recommended.

Over the last 10 years, my wife and I have found flying into Miami, spending four days driving down to KW, and flying back out of there to PA. By now, we tend to buy value, but we know where we're going, what we want to do, and recognize the fact that we spend little time in the room.

There's a bunch of Keys web sites, but the "official" one is http://fla-keys.com/. If you do a Google search, you'll find more.

I also suggest either the Keys or New Orleans. Glorious places in the spring!

Hi George,Thanks for the info.It will certainly come in handy trying to make a decision.Where, when, and for how long.I found a place in Key Largo called the Kona Kai Resort.Has anybody heard of this resort? Is Key Largo a nice place to visit for a week? Thanks again.

I'm a true partisan of Key West, so you'll have to take that into consideration with this post. Although the upper and middle keys are superior in snorkeling, Key West has it all. They've got wonderful places to stay and the most fabulous restaurants you can imagine...all within walking distance. Consider hotels on the Gulf...Ocean Key Resort and the Hyatt are best, or the fabulous Marquesa Hotel and Heron House. All have web sites; check them out!

Try San Antonio. We had the same situation -- took a long weekend and had a great time. Spent some time on the Riverwalk, the Alamo, hanging out by the pool. It was a nice long weekend. Actually, we loved the Riverwalk and would like to return again someday

Debbie: Not familiar with Kona Kai. Sounds intriguing, but it looks like there's a minimum stay requirement....

A week's far too long in Key Largo, unless you're there solely for diving. One thing about the Keys should be explained. I love putzing around in them. But they are, essentially, one long main street. Part strip mall, part breathtaking beauty. Until you get to Key West. Unless you're leisure-task oriented (fishing, diving,) I'd suggest no more than two days anywhere until you get to the bottom.

Hi George,Thanks again for the help.
I don't fish or dive.I like a resort type setting on a white sand beach
with blue water and palm trees.I also like a resort with a pool bar.
In or out of the pool. This isn't always my type of vacation since I've been to NY City,San Francisco,
New Orleans,Orlando, and Ft Lauderdale but this time I want a nice long(possible 10-12 days) relaxing, fun in the sun kind!!
So far I'm looking at Key West,Florida; Sedona,Arizona; and
the US Virgin Islands?!!!
