Tampa up the Carolina coasts to Washington DC

Hello, I am planning a road trip with my 16 year old granddaughter in June from Tampa, where she lives, up the coast and then into DC. I would love some places to stop and see Also any other advice you may have. I'm a young grandmother and have traveled extensively abroad but want her to see the US.

Thank you all

The scenic route would be to pick up A1A east of Jacksonville, take the ferry to Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach, Savannah, then US 17 through Beaufort to Charleston. You could stay on 17 all thevwaybto Fredericksburg and have lots to see, but you could also get on I 95 after Charleston and blast on to DC.

If you do I 95 all the way, you could still see Savannah, Charleston, and -- improbably -- Richmond easily. Richmond presents a horrible face to I 95 but has lovely districts, great food, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and gardens all within a mile or two of the interstate.

Good advice.

My recs would depend on how long you have. Going up 17 is great, except for a couple of spots, but it goes through small towns and takes some time.

I recommend continuing up the coast from Charleston on Route 17 at least to Georgetown (a lovely historic district from Revolutionary War time) and then Pawley's for Brookgreen Gardens (formerly a plantation but now a repository for beautiful art and sculpture in the gardens. It is small and I think unique.
Just above Pawley's is Myrtle Beach and you can head east to I95 for a quicker trip, or a bit further at Wilmington you can take I40 over to I95.
There is outlet shopping at MB!!
Not sure how much time you have for this trip, but have fun.

Hello, thank you all for your knowledge. We will be taking a week to do this trip. Is that sufficient? Then we plan 3 days in DC and 3 in NYC.

Do you have hotel recomendations along the beach route?

Thank you

DC

At Pawley's Island/Litchfield you can stay right on the beach at the Litchfield Inn. could be worth a stop. It's pretty there. But it isn't far from Charleston so don't know what kind of a pace you want to set. Maybe work backwards and forwards and see where you want to "light" for the nights.
