Hello,

I'm an exchange student, studying in NJ for one year. This summer, I want to travel to California before leaving. I'll be taking my plane to go back home in New York. So I would like to store my luggage in the city for 1 to 2 months, while I am in California.
I've been looking online to find a storage space, but everything seems pretty expressive. Do you have any tips/suggestions/advices/good address for me?

Where is your home? Can you ship the stuff you don't need in California to friends or family in your home country?

Agree to ship whatever you don;t need home before you go to CA. Will no doubt cost less than storing it anyplace for that length of time. (You could check commercial storage facilities but I think even the smallest would be much bigger than you need - and so not a reasonable price.)

I have checked out the luggage places in NYC and it looks like the going rate is $10/bag PER DAY - Either ship your
bag home or call the airlines & see what an extra bag would cost to fly to CA which might be cheaper.

Ask a friend in NJ to store the luggage for you. I'm sure someone in your class would be happy to help out.

First of all, you should check with your university, which may have facilities for exchange students. Barring that, there are many storage facilities where you can rent by the month (you provide the lock). So do that. Storing in a day-storage facility at JFK is not practical, affordable, or likely even allowed. I'm sure there's some kind of facility near public transit (though you might have to take a taxi or Uber).
