Southern Oregon Trip help ... please

Hello,

My family and I are planning a trip from the SF bay area to southern oregon. We have a few nights booked in a treehouse resort near cave junction and then 3 nights at the lake of the woods resort in Klamath Falls. At that point we have 3 free nights and a long drive back to the bay area.

Can you suggest any must see or do activities around the areas I mentioned and perhaps some ideas of where to spend the last 3 or so days?

We might be able to stay a night in crater lake and then travel the rogue umpqua scenic route for a night in roseburg. Then perhaps spend the last night in Ashland before heading home.

I have no clue what the area is like and I'm not sure if this is too much time? Perhaps with 3 nights in Klamath we would have enough time for a day trip including crater lake and the scenic byway then move to another part of the state or back down to California.

Thanks for any insight you have on places to stay, places to see, cool hikes for kids, and itinerary suggestions.

Thanks again....

How about going over to Gold Beach and doing the jet boat rides on the Rogue River- very fun, especially on a hot day

Any particular reason for choosing Klamath Falls as a base for 3 nights? I'd go for the Bend area instead.

Thanks for your reply's..

On a previous trip we made it to the coast and did experience the jet boat rides.. A lot of fun for sure. This time we wanted to stay in southern oregon, i guess we could go farther north just not sure if time permits.

The locations were really based on the lodging. The lake of the woods appears to be a very nice spot that offers a good deal of kid activities...

The Umqua River is beautiful with several waterfalls to walk in to - Tokatee I think is the prettiest.

Not far from Crater Lake is Diamond Lake- there is a resort with a swimming area, paddle boats and a nice trail around the lake for biking or walking - bike rental available at the store - however, sometimes it covered with algae so you might want to check conditions before going - when not covered with algae its's really beautiful.

If you want to stay in Southern OR check out the Grants Pass and Jacksonville areas. Great vineyards and wineries in the Applegate Valley and the Jetboats that leave from Grants Pass are the best. The jetboats are called Hellgate Excursions and some of my favorite wineries are Wooldridge Creek, Troon, and Rossellas! Have a great time. Oh ya do the dinner trip on the jetboats its the best one!

The Riverside Inn is a nice place to stay with a family, the Jet Boats leave from their boat dock there. ***kim***
